Personal life & work role

1. Tell us something about yourself and your role at Invenics?

I am a technology consultant at Invenics and during my time here I have worked across multiple teams and services lines within the company. I joined as a COVID graduate after completing my Integrated Masters degree in Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry. I decided after graduating that it was the ways of thinking and learning new things about how different small aspects can work and integrate together in order to achieve a big success, i.e., a cure of an illness, or a software application which greatly helps the lives of others, for example. With Invenics, they have given me the amazing opportunity to explore all the fields that there is within Technology and innovation, and I have been advancing and discovering what is best for me and what I can do to make a difference in the Tech world.

2. Describe your typical day at Invenics

My work-life at Invenics varies from day-to-day, week-to-week depending on the project that is happening at the time. If I am involved in a product-base project my week will consist of review meetings and assisting the platform requirements which have come from these meetings, with the ultimate goal of having this align with the standards set by the client in question. I have also been involved in consulting-based projects which have followed a “fast-slow”, less predictable nature, work with this involved attending meetings and collating cost synergies for the client across their multitude of teams.

Along with this, I have engaged in client calls regarding Technical Innovation conducted within other companies for them to obtain Tax Credits from the government scheme for R&D work. During summer season I have also project managed the UK Intern, Apprenticeships and Placement Year recruitment processes, conducting and part-taking in interviews along with creating case-studies and maintaining close communication with third parties involved in providing resources.

Early on in my time at Invenics, I have done work within Sales and social media, where analytical work to assess the algorithms used by media platforms and further create engagement across a wide audience through various methods, some of which we still follow today in our post creation. Overall, my typical day can be predictable or unpredictable, and to be honest that is one of the best parts.

3. How does Invenics help with your work life balance?

Invenics greatly helps us maintain our work-life balance through trust mainly. The company do many things in favour of work-life balance such as summer and winter team days, company lunches and celebrations of birthdays and life events within the office during the office day as and when to the point where employees themselves have begun creating events and social days off their own back from the motivation of the natural social culture of the company (such as, hill-walking weekends and sports days).

Although all these things create a good work-balance and stronger relationships among colleagues, personally for me, the most important aspect of the culture built within the company is the trust for us to work in our own way. As everyone is different, Invenics have managed to encourage and promote a supportive atmosphere throughout for everyone.

Nature of work

1. Describe the kind of clients and/or teams (cross-functional or otherwise) do you work with?

I work within the Innovation and App Development team currently, both of which have been outsourced to clients for the technical services that Invenics provide. The clients, small companies to large scale, all principally work directly with Research and Development on a multitude of areas and from different sectors: ranging from Finance to ESG, for example.

2. What keeps you motivated and/or challenges you at Invenics?

The opportunity to keep learning new things and explore heavily into lots of different areas of work that are available within the Technology industry. I feel like I can find what area naturally works for me along with feeling I am making a difference to the company’s products and services from the get-go.

Career development aspects

1. What opportunities do you get here at Invenics for a brighter and better career?

Very early on, I got hands-on opportunities to work directly with clients and present information necessary for the calls to proceed. I have also had multiple doors opened for me with thanks to my manager and the leadership team as they were able to understand and suggest paths, I could take to further my career.

2. What new skills or knowledge did you acquire here since joining?

Since joining, I have learnt how to apply my analytical, research and timekeeping skills in a completely new environment. It has put theory to practice, the lab-world to the digital-world and overall given me an al-round first-hand understanding of how to tackle different situations in the business world, as everything and everyone is different, no solution is the same. Adapting and moving with the flow has been very motivating to learn and do more and more here at Invenics.

Work culture & Office

1. How would you describe the overall work / office environment, colleagues, and culture at Invenics?

The culture and office environment feels slightly surreal. The calm atmosphere and the natural chat that can easily happen across the office is comforting. From what I know of office environments, the culture set up here – is a hard one to find or create, which is why I find it so surreal – not only has this happened in real life but I feel very lucky to be a part of it. I feel like I can talk to anyone about anything easily.

2. How would you describe the culture of leadership and management team?

The leadership and management are incredibly supportive and from my perspective immensely proud of the direction they give. Any issue or concern I have had I have been able to reach out directly and have my voice heard and a solution found in an amazingly fast time. Although they are remarkably busy individuals it is not hard to see that they do put their employees first before anything else.

3. What are some of the company benefits which you enjoy the most – from perks, wellness, team activities etc.?

The team days and wellness are the best, I like that the company put in an active effort to make the relationships you have with your teammates “more than just work”. Perks-wise, I would be lying if I said that the monthly contributions to our phone bills were not something to smile about.

4. What would you share with anyone seeking a position at Invenics?

I’d say do it. I would tell them about the office environment and company culture held; the people make the place, and like I said before, it is a hard work culture to find. Anything that you are interested in – what you put in is what you will get out.
